About GAM Radio

A Musical Movement that started in the late 60s and has continued to grow into a huge format.

In the late 60s, a movement called the “Jesus Movement” exploded with a rush to make music that would relate to this new group of Christians. Hymns, Gospel and Southern Gospel were popular in the church but not with this new group of believers. These new believers took the style of music they knew and made it their own and called it “Jesus Music”.

Pioneers of this movement included Larry Norman, LoveSong Keith Green, 2nd Chapter of Acts, Barry McGuire, Andraé Crouch and the Disciples, Evie, Randy Stonehill, and The Imperials, among others. The small Jesus music culture had expanded into a multimillion-dollar industry by the 1980s and has only continued to grow by the 2000s.

Many people listen to contemporary Christian music for comfort through tough times. One of the earliest goals of CCM was to spread the news of Jesus to non- Christians. In addition, contemporary Christian music also strengthens the faith of believers and provides a place of comfort and support.

Over the years, this music has been fading from the airwaves. Most of the music played on radio today is music of the 2000s.  Yet the music that started it all has been forgotten.  Generations are coming up that have never heard this music before.  This is why this ministry was created.

In 2015, Kevin Grady went back to Texas to visit the old CCM stations he helped create.  Most were still on the air.  After visiting with Bill Woleben, a former engineer of one of that station, Bill encouraged Kevin to do a show to bring this music back.   They discussed syndication to other radio stations, but after discussing it and looking at the costs involved that was not the best option.  So, they looked into a podcast, but that also was not cost-effective.  They decided the best thing to do was a full-time radio station that was on the internet. This non-profit ministry was created so the station could do other ministries besides the radio station.  We hope to also do concerts featuring these classic artists that would be played on the station.   So in March of 2017, we began to do test broadcasts to make sure the sound was top quality and the player and software would do what we needed it to do.   The problem is, we found out, Kevin could not do the station from his house as where he lives the internet is not very good and we needed a top-notch signal to make the station work.  That meant moving into a bigger city, and at first, we were in Ashland, KY but the location was not the best as it was very noisy.  So, in 2018, the station moved to its current location in Russell, KY.

Judah is the nonprofit that owns GAM Radio.  The money raised goes completely to the station.  The cost is $600 a month. The rent and the internet provided by the landlord is $490 a month.  The rest is made up of the servers in London England that rebroadcast the station and the copyright fees.  No one with Judah Music Ministry or GAM Radio is paid a salary as we all do it out of a love for the ministry and the music.  Please consider making a monthly donation to Judah so we can keep this music playing on the air.
